Professor Yaw Agyapong Nsiah, Ph.D

Professor Yaw Agyapong Nsiah, was born in Asamang, Ashanti, Ghana many moons ago. He attended Konya L/A Primary School at Asamang, Ashanti and the Asamang SDA Middle School. Upon earning his Middle School Leaving certificate, he was awarded a five year Cocoa Marketing Board full scholarship for farmers’ children to attend Half Assini Secondary at Half Assini in the Western Region. On graduation from HASCO in 1973, he earned another scholarship to visit and study in the USA under the auspices of the American Field Service Intercultural Program 1973/74 academic year.

At HASCO he was a member of the Voluntary Workcamps Association of Ghana (VOLU). In 1976, he gained admission into Howard University, Washington DC, USA to pursue an undergraduate B.Sc. degree in Microbiology. He graduated from Howard University in 1980 and immediately entered into a graduate program to pursue a doctorate degree in Microbiology in the Department of Microbiology, College of Medicine at Howard University.

He earned his PH. D (Virology) in 1987 with expertise in the development of anti-infectives (drugs) against virus infections; and he subsequently went on to a post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Hershey Medical Center, Penn State College of Medicine, Hershey Pennsylvanian, USA.

After his post-doctoral fellowship at Hershey, he was hired as a full tenure track Assistant Professor in 1990 at Eastern Connecticut State University in Connecticut, USA, where he has been teaching and nurturing students for the last 29 years.

He is currently a full Professor and has been the Chair and founder of Department of Health Sciences and Nursing since 2014. Professor Nsiah is a member of the American Society of Virology (ASV), American Society of Microbiology (ASM) and Connecticut Public Health Association (Ct-PHA).
